Labour-only moves
Sometimes you have the transport but not the muscle. Many removal companies offer movers by the hour to load or unload a hire van, a shipping container, a portable storage container or a self storage unit.
When it makes sense
- You have hired a van and will drive it yourself.
- A container or pod is being delivered to your drive.
- You are moving items into or out of a self storage unit.
- You need help moving heavy furniture between rooms or floors.
- Your international shipping company delivers the container, but not the loading crew.
Why use experienced movers
- A well-loaded van or container fits more and arrives with less damage.
- They bring blankets, straps and trolleys.
- They know how to carry heavy and awkward items safely on stairs.
What to tell the company
- Where the vehicle or container will be, and its size.
- How many rooms or items, and any heavy pieces.
- Stairs, lifts and parking at the address.
- Whether you need help at one end or both.
With labour only, the company's goods in transit insurance usually does not cover the journey, because they are not transporting your belongings. Check what is covered.
