Moving at short notice

Sometimes you cannot plan ahead: a tenancy falls through, a completion date moves, a relationship ends or a job starts sooner than expected. Many man and van companies keep space for short-notice jobs, especially on weekdays.

How to get a same-day move booked

  1. Give exact details: both addresses, floors, lifts and a list of large items.
  2. Be flexible on the time of day if you can.
  3. Pack what you can before the van arrives. Hourly rates reward being ready.
  4. Answer your phone. Removal companies will call to confirm quickly.

What it costs

Short-notice moves are usually priced like normal man and van jobs, by the hour, but you have less choice of companies. Weekends and month ends are the hardest days to book at short notice.

Need storage too?

If you have to leave before your new home is ready, ask about short-term storage.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really move today?

Often, for smaller moves on weekdays. Larger homes and weekends are harder at short notice.

Is a same-day move more expensive?

Not always. Most companies charge their usual hourly rate, but you may have fewer companies to choose from.
