London's most booked moving service
Most London moves are small. A studio in Hackney, a room in a Clapham house share, a sofa from a seller in Ealing. For these a man and van is usually quicker to book and cheaper than a full removal team. You pay by the hour, the van is small enough to park on most streets, and many companies can come the same week.
Tell us the size of the move and both postcodes. Up to 5 London companies that cover your area send you a quote, and you choose.

What makes a London move take longer
- Stairs and no lift. Victorian conversions and older blocks often have three or four flights. Say which floor you are on at both ends.
- Parking. Most inner London streets are controlled parking zones. A long walk from the van to the door adds time. Read our guide to parking suspensions.
- Red routes and loading rules. On TfL red routes a van can only stop where loading is allowed, and only at certain times.
- Traffic. Crossing London at rush hour can take over an hour. Starting at 8am or after 10am often helps.
- ULEZ and the Congestion Charge. ULEZ covers every London borough. Ask whether any charges are included in the quote.
Same-day and weekend man and van
London has more man and van companies than anywhere else in the UK, so short-notice jobs are often possible, especially on weekdays. Weekends and the last few days of the month book up first because that is when most tenancies end. If your date is flexible, a Tuesday to Thursday move in the middle of the month is usually cheapest.

How to compare quotes properly
- Check whether the price is per hour or fixed, and what the minimum is.
- Ask if the driver will help carry, or if you need to load yourself.
- Check goods in transit insurance and the limit per item.
- Ask about extra charges for stairs, waiting time, parking or fuel.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a man and van in London per hour?
Most London man and van companies charge roughly £40 to £80 an hour for a van and driver, often with a one or two hour minimum. A second helper usually costs extra.
Can I get a same-day man and van in London?
Often, yes. London has many small companies, and weekday same-day jobs are common. Weekends and month ends are busier, so book earlier for those.
Will the driver help me carry things?
Most do, but some quote for driver only. Check this before you book, especially if you have heavy furniture or stairs.
Do I need a parking suspension for a man and van?
For a short job most vans use a loading bay or a nearby space. For a long load on a busy street, a council parking suspension can save time. Most councils need several working days of notice.
