How containerised storage works
The removal company loads your belongings into large wooden containers, usually at its depot or straight from your home. Each container is sealed and stacked in a warehouse. When you are ready, the same containers are delivered to your new home.
Pros and cons
| Good for | Less good for |
|---|---|
| Whole homes and longer stays | Frequent access |
| Fewer handling steps, so less risk of damage | Short notice retrieval of one item |
| Often cheaper per week than self storage | Very small amounts |
How many containers?
A standard container holds roughly the contents of one room. A 2-bed flat often needs three or four containers, and a 3-bed house five to seven. Your mover will confirm after a survey.
